Central Asia | A Foot-Washing Movement Among Unreached Muslims

On a short trip to a mountainous region of South Asia, Novo staff and global partners felt the Holy Spirit leading them to wash the feet of two couples who lead a local ministry to Muslims. God used it powerfully to touch their hearts. Culturally, feet are considered extremely dirty and you shouldn’t even show the bottoms of your feet to someone.

After that foot-washing, the local leaders started washing the feet of Muslim people as a way to introduce them to Jesus, and it became a foot washing “movement.” Muslims who’ve had their feet washed are now washing the feet of others, all in the name of Jesus. People have been moved by the humility of Jesus and have said they never knew Jesus was like this. So many people have had their feet washed now that they’ve lost count!

“I'm so encouraged by how God knows the strategy to reach each people group,” our global partner involved in the initial foot-washing said. “I would have never imagined breaking into this tough culture with the gospel by washing feet, but God knew.” We are hoping to see a gospel movement of many people choosing to follow Jesus among this unreached people group in connection with this foot washing movement!
