Dallas, Texas | Young Adults Activated into Prayer and Mission

In Dallas, the Activating Prayer Cohort (previously the Spiritual Authority Cohort) has taken off among young adults. At this point around 300 young adults across Dallas-Fort Worth have participated in the Cohort and been activated into prayer and lives on mission. What’s more, a Gospel Movement Team with 10 team members has formed, mostly made up of young adults who went through the Cohort.

One of those part-time staff members is Jenna, who went through the Cohort and then joined a Novo Young Adult Prayer Adventure to Ffald y Brenin in Wales (where team leader Taylor says they get about a year’s worth of discipleship in one week!). Jenna is a graduate of Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas and served as a campus missionary there for three years. Now possessing a Spirit-led posture toward evangelism, Jenna was blown away learning from Novo that she could partner with the Holy Spirit and do whatever he was telling her to do.

Jenna leads Novo’s efforts on the SMU campus, the fastest growing missional space the team has. College students are drawn to the prayerful community, where times of prayer, prayer-walks, and worship nights are taking place. Young adults who were just nominally Christian are getting discipled and really taking to Jesus in those gatherings.

One SMU student, Charlotte, grew up in the area and knew very little about Jesus. Charlotte’s friend attended summer volleyball nights put on by the young adult community, and invited her to join. After several invitations she finally agreed to come—on a night the group had decided to have a worship night instead of volleyball! Though not excited initially by the change, Charlotte decided to go anyway. Jesus totally overwhelmed Charlotte with his presence, and she became a believer that night. The team sent her home with her first Bible and plugged her into the SMU group for continued discipleship. Charlotte and another young lady were recently baptized in a neighborhood swimming pool, and a whole group of young adults spent the next two hours listening to Jesus on their behalf, blessing and speaking life over them.

The Dallas team only officially formed in January, and we can’t wait to hear what God’s going to do next!
