Lebanon | Serving Those Displaced by War
NEO Leaders has worked in the Middle East for 18 years and has a strong team of local leaders in the countries surrounding Israel. They currently have 700,000 people in Bible study groups, creating communities of followers of Christ. And, as you can imagine, when you have a ministry that works in almost every country in the Middle East, their teams are used to working in times of war and uncertainty.
The conflict from the Israel-Hamas war spilling into Lebanon has had a significant impact on the NEO Leaders staff and volunteers scattered across the country.
“Honestly, if you ask me how I’m doing, I would say: 'Physically, I'm fine. But mentally and emotionally, I'm not well.'”
These are the words of our partner, Gigi, Executive Director of SLED (NEO’s ministry meeting the physical needs of people in crisis throughout the Middle East), and she is among those leading our emergency response efforts on the ground in Beirut. The situation in Lebanon has reached a critical point as the recent violence has displaced over 1.3 million people, destroyed homes, and left communities shattered.
In this moment of chaos and loss, Gigi and the SLED team are bringing hope to those in desperate need, providing food, water, shelter, and emotional support to countless victims.
With crisis and war comes internal disruption as well. Our national teams often witness these times of vulnerability bringing out more questions and yearnings to know about Jesus and find security in his love. So despite their own inner suffering, Gigi and the SLED team are focused on serving and intentionally inviting those longing for Jesus to learn more about him through Bible study.
Be in prayer for Gigi and the SLED team as they continue to love others holistically—pray that the grace of God would fill them up in the midst of the struggle as they continue to pour out for others.
