Minden, Nevada | Christmas Candy for a Cause
Hallelujah Toffee, based in the small town of Minden, Nevada, has grown over the last 25 years from a small family-run side-hustle dedicated to paying off one family member’s medical student loans, into a volunteer-powered non-profit that contributes all of their profits (an expected 180k this year) to missions. Each box of toffee includes their mission statement and a link to discover more about the ministries the toffee sales support. Hallelujah Toffee has two separate areas of ministry impact: the ministry that happens in the kitchen and packing room among the volunteers in Minden, and the ministries around the world that receive major funds to expand their disciple making efforts.
The Hallelujah Toffee crew realized that the thing that had impacted their lives more than anything else was knowing Jesus, so they wanted their toffee proceeds to directly benefit disciple-making ministries. It’s been their joy to partner substantially with Novo over the past few years, because they know that’s what Novo is all about. They’ve been able to make significant contributions to Novo projects in Ukraine and the Middle East.
The local ministry that happens in the kitchen during toffee making season is powerful as well. There is one “God-moment” after another—two recent widows ministering to each other through their losses, senior citizens excited to be part of something significant for the Kingdom, high-schoolers who don’t really believe in anything being impacted by older, passionate followers of Jesus. It’s amazing to see what God can do with something as simple as making, packing, and selling toffee. This ministry checks all the “glocal” boxes, and it’s a super sweet endeavor Jesus is using to change lives.
