Tijuana, Mexico | Letting the Spirit Lead

Engaging with God’s word for themselves and learning to listen for God’s voice was revolutionary.

Francisco has been serving in Mexico for over 10 years. For much of his ministry, he used a traditional preaching model, but he noticed multiplication wasn’t happening. Then, a little over a year ago, he was introduced to the Discovery Bible Study (DBS) approach, and everything changed.

The first DBS at the church in Tijuana had about 40 participants, and Francisco noticed the joy people had sharing with one another about what they were noticing in the scripture passage. In general, people in Tijuana have a lot of faith—they live with very little and trust God—but they don’t have a lot of knowledge of scripture, and do whatever the pastor says. Engaging with God’s word for themselves and learning to listen for God’s voice was revolutionary for them. The call to action at the end of each study where people asked God what they should do in response to the passage challenged them to really live out the truths they were discovering. People were being equipped and released to follow Jesus and partner with him on mission.

Now, instead of meeting in one room, the DBS groups meet in several locations, many in family homes—and they continue to multiply. One of the families who started a DBS in their home began the group with just one other family, and now there are seven families participating! Teenagers and new believers are being baptized, and lives are transformed through engaging God’s Word.

Francisco says, “It’s not the power of the tool—it’s the power of God through DBS that is changing lives.”

His vision for the next 10 years is to establish strong hubs where people can learn, grow, and teach others, spreading God’s work across Tijuana and Mexico.

See Every Spark

All around the world, the Holy Spirit is prompting people to say “yes” to Jesus in big and little ways. Each “yes” is a spark—and as these sparks multiply, gospel movements can begin.

Each spark on this map represents a place where people connected with Novo are saying “yes” to God. Every story offers a glimpse of how God is using these sparks to transform lives. And these are your stories, too—made possible by your “yes” to praying and partnering with Novo.

Thank you for sustaining these sparks and helping them multiply.
